Why me?

Hello, friends!

My name is Shelby Sampson and I am 23 years old, live in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, love Jesus, and I've almost convinced my local YMCA to get a cot for me. I have always loved and played sports, but after high school I thought my athletic career was over. I stopped playing volleyball and that left a huge void to fill, both physically and mentally. I absolutely love to compete, even if it's only against myself.

At the beginning of my freshman year of college, I was fortunate to get plugged into a local volleyball gym in Columbus where I began coaching and learning the ropes of weight lifting. I learned an immense amount from working out with the guys in the gym, and it provided me with an incredible release and sense of accomplishment.

I did end up playing volleyball again, but I never stopped lifting. Getting stronger every single day was, and continues to be extremely rewarding.

Flash forward to May, 2014

I was working at a medical office as a receptionst and had been for about six months. I felt God tugging on my heart to begin my own personal training business in some capacity. I didn't know what it was going to look like and was so scared to act on it. Six months later, this tug just wouldn't quit, so I started an online personal training business writing individualized workout plans for people.

May, 2015

I put in my two weeks notice at work and decide to pursue my business full-time. I now provide online personal training plans, in-person training, and team training. I am far from where I want to be and all the people I want to impact, but I am one step closer.

Oh, and maybe most importantly, I LOVE my Buckeyes. I hope that doesn't get in the way of our friendship. ;)

Why is what I do different?

Whereas most fitness plans are focused on the end-product, (pounds lost, inches lost, etc), my plan for you emphasizes process-oriented goals. For instance, going to the gym x number of times during the week and making smarter eating decisions for your mid-day meal. Process-oriented goals are completely in your control, even when the numbers are not. However, with the achievement of process-oriented goals, the results you hope for follow, all while increasing your success and decreasing your frustration.

I am not here as a crutch that you rely on, but rather someone who empowers you, increasing your self-awareness and your self-efficacy.

Finally, I want you to ENJOY working out, ENJOY your journey, and ENJOY the investment you are making in your health.

Why am I doing this?

To empower people.

To help people improve themselves, inside and out.

To use my gifts and talents.

To help people enjoy the process of working out.
